Wax Bar and JukeJoint
Georgina Pellant
A tiny, funky dive bar known for its great vinyl collection, Wax Bar and JukeJoint is open every night of the week pouring cocktails and frosty beers until late into the night. Located on New Briggate with DJs spinning tunes every Friday and Saturday evening, it’s a popular stop off on a Leeds night out thanks to its proximity to popular haunts like North Bar, Sela Bar, and Belgrave Music Hall.
Playing a mix of new wave punk, rock and roll, glam, post-punk, 80s and whatever else they fancy (on wax only, of course), expect to find a laid back bar with quirky decor that feels something like an homage to the owner’s personal music collection. Think lampshades on the walls made from classic cassette tapes, 1980s boomboxes for bar shelves, a vinyl player, many, many vinyls, and an old Americana jukebox stacked full of musical treasures.
The perfect place to dip in for a drink or two and get lost in sound, on the menu you’ll find a selection of creative cocktails alongside ice cold beers served in frosted glasses. Wax Bar offers cocktail deals until 10pm every day throughout the week, and serves £6 BloodyMarys and Micheladas all night long on Sundays. There’s a great beer selection, with plenty of cans and bottles to choose from as well as a handful of solid draught pours.
With a great alternative music playlist, cosy decor and weekend DJs who are happy to put on the odd tune for you, Wax Bar is the sort of place where if you went for one after work it could easily turn into a long night. A tiny treasure, whether you’re looking for a stop-off on a night out exploring Leeds bar scene or a place where you can settle in for the night, this trendy little dive bar is well worth a visit.
With an old school theme running right through the middle, this brilliant little Leeds bar has it all: frosty beers, well-made cocktails, and a record collection solid enough to keep you dancing all night long. If you’re planning on a night out in Leeds, make sure to put it on your list.
