Victoria Baths

Much Ado About Nothing at Victoria Baths

Oh, Victoria Baths, how we love thee: this Grade-II listed former (and occasionally current!) swimming baths is a Victorian stunner, all deep green glazed tiles, terracotta twiddly bits and Turkish baths. Back in 2003, the then-abandoned baths won the BBC TV programme, Restoration, a £500k win that set in train the slow but gradual refurbishment of a building that contains three swimming pools, treatment rooms and what at one time were the country’s first public Aeratone Therapeutic Baths.

Restoration (and fundraising) continues, but the baths at at least open regularly now, operating as an events space and heritage attraction with 30,000 visitors each year coming for beer festivals, art exhibitions, music events, vintage fairs, cinema nights and much more.
