The Workshop, Jewellery Studio
Carmel Smickersgill, Tours & Activities EditorHebden Bridge is well established as a meeting place for makers, artists and craftspeople at the top of their trade. It’s therefore unsurprising to hear of a jewellery studio in this innovative town that is welcoming those wishing to learn the skills and knowledge needed for crafting silver jewellery. Discover a new passion or just try your hand at creating wearable ornaments with The Workshop.
If you’re looking for a one off experience, you can attend a three-hour silver jewellery making workshop where you’ll make a ring, necklace or bangle. In these sessions you’ll be working with silver, and guided through every step of making your own beautiful pieces by expert jeweller, Rob. All materials are provided and the classes give students an excellent opportunity to get hands on with the processes of making silver jewellery. Be sure to check the individual times and dates for the different classes on The Workshop’s website.
For those who are looking to gain a more in-depth understanding of jewellery-making techniques, The Workshop also offer six-week courses. These are aimed at beginners and will teach you the skills of metal forming, filing, annealing, soldering, piercing, texturing and finishing. You’ll be given an allocation of base metals and silver to put these techniques into practice. The first three weeks are spent learning the new techniques and the final three weeks are spent making a final piece. With small class sizes of just four people, you can be sure to get a generous amount of individual attention and help with your projects.
Or for those wishing to make something of great sentimental value, The Workshop also offer wedding ring making sessions for couples wanting to make their rings that little bit more personal. Couples can make straight or shaped wedding rings in white,
yellow or rose gold, plus platinum.
The Workshop is run by Robert and Jenny Dutson whose impressive jewellers CV’s include multiple exhibitions, commissions from Michael Jackson, extensive teaching experience, producing civic pieces of official jewellery and making items for film and
TV. You can be sure you’re learning from two people who truly understand and love their craft.
On their website, you can browse Robert and Jenny’s most recent bespoke commissions and also read testimonies from clients who’ve commissioned these elegant creations. They use the latest CAD technology alongside traditional bench skills to produce exquisite pieces to be worn and loved for a lifetime.
