The Old Electric Blackpool
Sarah Catherine JonesIf you’re after fun and creative activities away from the madness of Blackpool’s promenade, look no further than The Old Electric.
Founded back in 2020, this thriving community arts space provides a reliable location for creativity and culture. With a purpose to ensure art is accessible for all of Blackpool communities, The Old Electric offers plenty of unique opportunities to learn, develop and grow.
There’s a lot under one roof here. Theatre Space One is the perfect venue for performances, dance classes and rehearsals, which is located on the second floor. This boasts an amphitheatre-style seating arrangement, which is a first for Blackpool.
Alongside the theatre space is The Mezz, ideal for workshops and small-scale gigs. It seats around 35, so it’s a great spot for intimate performances.
You can also find a handy café and tuck shop on site to keep you fed and watered. It offers everything from drinks and snacks to breakfasts and teatime treats. This area has a book exchange, a vinyl player with headphones and some musical instruments, providing ample opportunities to read, listen and play while enjoying a decent brew.
If you’re more interested in The Old Electric’s events, you’ve got a fair few to choose from. You can get stuck into weekly community theatre sessions, musical improv and life drawing classes, as well as one-off performances and themed evenings. There are regular events for families too, so keep an eye out on The Old Electric’s online calendar for their latest listings.
With a great mix of live performances, events, workshops and community events, The Old Electric is a great addition to Blackpool’s growing community art scene. Whether you’re after a place to meet, create or rehearse, there’s plenty of space to suit your needs.
