The Met Hotel
Demi Sheridan, Editorial AssistantBusinessfolk of a certain vintage may recall the ITV show The Darling Buds Of May, which featured national treasure David Jason and the now world-famous Catherine Zeta Jones. Well, you can follow in their footsteps and stop at The Met Hotel, a listed building from 1898, which featured in the show back in 1991. Lovely jubbly.

The 4-star beautifully maintained Met Hotel is a much loved landmark in Leeds cityscape. In keeping its original design and modernising the interior with contemporary style and flair, the structure has been a fully functional hotel, welcoming guests for over a century. Since opening its doors in the late 1800s, the well known – by locals and building history fans alike – Victorian terracotta façade, designed by local architects back in the day, has been carefully kept intact. Right down to the stone cupola from the city’s demolished fourth White Cloth Hall 1895.
The Met Hotel is perfectly located for city breaks, business trips and events at the First Direct Arena. Just mere minutes from the train station, shopping area, bars and restaurants you will have your choice and all things to do and see in Leeds.
After that, you are going to want to be comfortable and cosy, or at least I would. The Met Hotel is committed to guest comfort and satisfaction. Are you traveling alone? With a partner or a group of friends? You can choose from a Single room (sleeps one person) to Superior King rooms (these can sleep two, but I would want this extra space for myself). All rooms are warmly decorated and designed with convenience in mind, with modern furnishings, en-suite facilities, TV, complimentary tea and coffee and of course, that all important WiFi.
Now, I know you are surrounded by some of the city’s best restaurant and bar options, but while you are staying at The Met Hotel, be sure to stop by The Tempus Restaurant and Bar at least once. They are open all day and have elegance and decadence throughout, with plush cream seating and classic wooden table tops, it’s like being at an ‘old money’ wedding. British classics are at the heart of the menu with seasonal dishes made with local ingredients sporadically as specials depending on when you visit. I would be choosing the Fish and Chips – a battered catch of the day and triple-cooked chips. Yes please. That or, if you are feeling a little indulgent, go for the signature Met Burger.
