SHIP & MITRE
The Ship & Mitre

The Ship and Mitre is a traditional-style pub with a wide selection of draught beers and ales, with the largest selection of hand-pulled ales in Merseyside. Its name comes from a combination of the pub’s names from previous lives – The Flagship and The Mitre.

Winner of Pub of the Year on a number of occasions, The Ship and Mitre offers an impressive selection of hand-pulled ales, as well as around 200 beers, draught and bottled. On the bar you’ll find German Weissbier, Czech Pilsners and the ever popular Belgian Strawberry beer.

The Ship does some decent pub grub too and outside there’s a small but perfectly formed area for you to sink a pint or three under the bright blue Merseyside sky. The downstairs bar is decorated to look like the inside of a ship and there’s also a little-known function space upstairs called The Higher Room, a grand art deco room which hosts tasting evenings and other events.

In 2014, the Ship and Mitre Wirral Beer Festival was born, a bi-annual event at Hulme Hall, Port Sunlight during November and March. Tickets are reasonably priced so if you love trying new beers, that’s the place to be.

The pub is located in a somewhat unusual place on the edge of the city centre, possibly because of the changes that have taken place in the area over the years, with a busy junction nearby and seemingly never-ending building works down the road. Standing between the museums on William Brown Street and the Business District, this doesn’t stop the Ship and Mitre from remaining the relaxed pub you can pop into as a curious tourist looking for a local pint or for a quick drink on the way back from the office.
