Sanskruti
Maja Lorkowska, Exhibitions EditorIt seems that everyone in Liverpool knows about Sanskruti yet it still feels like a bit of a secret. Perhaps it’s its unusual location in the Business District, down a staircase luring passers-by with delicious smells.
Sanskruti is a vegetarian and vegan Indian restaurant, serving an array of fresh, brightly coloured dishes that you’ll be thinking about for a long time after the meal. If you’re not convinced by the lack of animal protein, prepare to be surprised – Sanskruti’s food is so flavourful that you won’t even remember it’s vegetarian, not to mention that you won’t be leaving hungry with generous portions and a very long menu to choose your treats from.
Alongside the usual starters, you’ll find street food (you must try the puris), ‘South Indian Paradise’ with regional dishes, Punjabi, Gujarati and Rajasthani mains, daal and lots of delicious breads, rice and sides. Finish off with one of the desserts made with saffron, almonds or cardamom. The restaurant also serves alcoholic drinks but if you’re not drinking, there are homemade lassis and sodas to choose from – much more exciting than the usual array of juices and coke.
The interior is open and spacious so you won’t be touching elbows with the couple next to you whispering sweet nothings. You can relax, take it slow and enjoy the experience. The website even has a list of articles about the health benefits of the most commonly used spices in Indian cuisine so really, by eating at Sanskruti, you’re actually choosing the healthy option (nobody needs to know about all that naan). There is a takeout option too but you’ll want to come in to experience the lovely service and the food served in a way that you just can’t recreate at home. Sanskruti is a ten-minute walk from Liverpool ONE so you’ll have a few moments to work up an appetite – you’ll need it!
