Ripley’s Believe It Or Not
Georgina PellantLocated at Blackpool Pleasure Beach resort, this museum of oddities is the perfect place for families to discover the strange, the unusual and the extraordinary. Home to a collection of eight themed galleries set across two floors, Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum truly has to be seen to be believed.
Featuring everything from a two-headed calf to the tallest man in the world and the smallest woman who ever lived – plus authentic African fertility statues – as you move from room to room you’ll continue to uncover a new surprise on every corner.
Within its walls visitors will find hundreds of exhibits of the odd, the unusual and just plain bizarre. First beginning as a newspaper panel, the Believe It or Not feature proved so popular it later grew into a series of books, museums, radio and TV programmes, comic books and a book series. Today, it has over 20 museums spread across the world, but the Blackpool location is considered one of its most iconic by UK tourists.
A place to make unforgettable family memories, here guests can step back in time as they enter into the charmingly old-fashioned experience. Discover Ripley’s own nod to the classic American fun-house experience as you explore a room with vibrating floors and its own turning tunnel, unveil weird and wonderful facts inside innumerable glass display cabinets, and finish up at the gift shop to take a memory of this quirky museum home with you.
Elsewhere, you’ll find Peruvian Moche Skulls dating back to 700 AD, metallic droids, a church made of matchsticks, and even ‘The Molar Coaster’ – a display of dentures that were allegedly found in the lake in 1992 during the construction of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s oldest and most famous roller coaster: The Big One.
For those looking for something a little different to do when in Blackpool, you can’t go wrong with Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum. Trust us when we say, you’ll leave with plenty of talking points.
Those with accessibility needs should note that the museum does not have its own on site bathrooms or a lift. Assistance animals are welcome, however, and free tickets are available for anyone who requires a companion to support them around the building.
