OM IS WHERE THE HEART IS

Promoting health and balance in body and mind, Om Is Where The Heart Is is a brunch house, neighbourhood bar and yoga studio all rolled into one. Located in Slaithwaite near Huddersfield, the multi-purpose venue has a simple aim: they want anyone who steps through the door “to leave with their tummies and hearts full”.

Let’s start with the tummies. Owners Alex and Ellie pride themselves on tasty, healthy food sourced mainly from local suppliers. Always prepared fresh and never containing additives or preservatives, their brunch and lunch options are satisfyingly eclectic. Vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters all have plenty to go at, with popular menu items including topped sourdough toast, handcrafted tacos, and hearty burgers. Their bao buns also look great, with filling options including sticky belly pork, buttermilk fried chicken thigh and halloumi.

A small plate menu kicks in at 6pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, when the café becomes more of a bar, serving a range of craft beers, ales and wines. On the evening menu, you’ll find tantalising veggie and vegan options like flame-grilled padron peppers with sea salt and lime, sweet potato fries with cauliflower salsa, and soft corn tacos with cauliflower and asparagus. For meat-eaters, dishes include cajun shrimp and chorizo skewers, crispy buffalo chicken wings with celery sticks and blue cheese sauce, and crispy fried whitebait with garlic and herb aioli.

Now onto the hearts. Of course what really makes Om Is Where The Heart Is stand out from the crowd is its yoga classes, which take place in a lovely little studio upstairs. There are 10 instructors, all of whom teach different styles of yoga, from ashtanga to vinyasa to hatha. The classes cater to everyone from total beginners to advanced yogis, and whether you want to improve mobility, find some inner peace, or just steal an hour of ‘me’ time, the folks at Om promise that you’ll leave every class feeling better than when you came in. Reviews more than back this up, with a recent guest describing their experience as “a spa day for the soul”.

A unique spot in Slaithwaite, the Heart of the Colne Valley, Om Is Where The Heart Is is a one-stop-shop for those looking to keep their bodies and minds healthy and happy.
