English or American. The two principal options of brunching. Although the former feels more traditional, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the better choice.
Introducing Moose, a North American brunch spot and coffee house that is absolutely swimming in its Americana flavours – and plenty of maple syrup. Their house syrup is imported directly from a specialist in Canada. It’s authentic and goes more than an extra mile to replicate its roots.
The Lone Star Moose is a champion’s plate. A ‘meat feast’, with minute steak, gourmet chipolata sausages, potato hash, fried eggs, toast and tomato. The hash is pretty filthy: heavy on the garlic, and insanely more-ish.
The moose stack, I admit, was my first time trying French toast. I have had it a lot more since. It’s what they call a ‘grand bouche’, French for ‘big mouth’. Two slabs of brioche, made with vanilla batter, topped with homemade berry compote, mascarpone and mint, and lashings of maple syrup. It’s very authentic, very filling, and very hard not to like.
The portion sizing is gorgeously generous. The plates are huge, and you can’t see the bottom of them until you’re done. The space itself is clean but dazzling; picture windows that let in a really beautiful morning light. If you’re looking for your next brunch spot, let this be your first port of call.
