Maray
Ian Jones, Food and Drink Editor
Food-lovers should make their way to Liverpool‘s Maray, tout suite. Inspired by the historic district of Le Marais, Paris, the food more than matches up to our cross-channel cousins. Largely based around small plates and prevailing food trends, the dishes are beautiful and surprisingly affordable, designed for both sharing and cooing over.
The menu is heavy on the non-meat dishes, but carnivores shouldn’t be put off, the buttermilk chicken thighs are among the best in the city, with the lamb koftas a close second. The venue is small but perfectly formed and the staff impossibly friendly, with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the ingredients that make up each dish. If possible, go with a group as you’ll want to explore every inch of the menu.
Located on the city’s favourite food spot, the famous Bold Street, Maray is close to lots of cute cafés and bars that you can visit while you’re in the area. You can even pop into FACT to see a film. Date night is sorted.
