Mahoe Blue

Located away from the hustle and bustle of Liverpool‘s city centre, Mahoe Blue is a Jamaican bistro and bar on Aigburth Road in the leafy, southern part of the city. Its blue walls don’t take away from the cosy feel of the place which is filled with wooden tables, banquettes, monochrome photographs on the walls and there’s a map of Jamaica painted on one of the walls. It’s friendly place to be from the moment you enter until you’re full and ready to leave after finishing your last Red Stripe.

Now, onto the start of the show – the authentic Jamaican dishes. The menu is small with traditional meals like saltfish with plantain or curry goat. Sample Caribbean flavours with oxtail with broad beans, jerk gravy, and of course, rice and peas. Plantain is a highlight every time it makes an appearance, whether it’s in a dish or eaten by itself. There are ‘homemade’ bottled juices to drink, like pineapple punch, and of course a selection of cocktails, mocktails. And, of course, bottles of Red Stripe.

Mahoe Blue is a short bus (or car) ride away from the city centre. It’s located opposite Sefton Park and a few minutes from Lark Lane, if you fancy popping by for a drink.
