The Jennings family started brewing beer under the shadow of Cockermouth Castle in the late 1800s, doubtless giving rise to one of its most popular ales the Cocker Hoop. The same pure Lakeland water from the brewery’s own well is still the main ingredient, even though the family connections are no more. The Jennings Brewery offers a great brewery tour that finishes up in the Old Cooperage bar, known to host a shindig or two,  a tea room and shop for those wanting to carry off a firkin or two of real ale.
