Hotel Gotham

If you have been to Manchester before or even if you haven’t, odds are you have heard of the Hotel Gotham. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1928, this iconic building previously served as the headquarters for the Midland Bank.

The unique façade and intricate details – along with its eerie mysteriousness – makes it a very difficult building to miss. In fact, in 1974, having been standing for less than 50 years, the bank was designated a Grade II listed building.

What was once a proud standing financial institution, in 2015, this historic gem was reborn as Hotel Gotham. Its stored and well established passed merging with modern luxury. Effortlessly exuding charm and sophistication, by maintaining many of its original features. From the ornate ceilings to the stunning vault – now serving as an exclusive event space.

The hotel has an interior to match the exterior, being that it is mostly art deco style, our favourite. There are numerous special features to look out for once inside. Things like the bank bags being used as door stops or the faux fur throws. The general opulence gestures kindly to the bank’s financial past and luxurious present.

Now, if you are anything like me, you can’t hear the name Gotham without thinking, Batman. The comic book angel is just as present throughout, with the Gotham Bugle and nods to the universally known bat signal dotted around here, there and everywhere.

There are several room/ suite types to choose from, each more decadent than the last. The Inner Sanctum Suites (one of the most luxurious, and therefore expensive) starting from £359 for the night. Featuring leather clad walls and a wide screen ‘wonderwall’ to keep you entertained.

During your stay, be sure to check out the hotel’s restaurant, Honey. The 2 AA Rosette awarded dining experience is not something to skip.

After enjoying your passionately prepared meal, head up to Club Brass – a private members club with exclusive access to the roof terrace. The prohibition-styled speakeasy on the 7th floor is a VIP lounge available to members and Hotel Gotham guests.

Hotel Gotham, stay, dine and drink, in style.
