DoubleTree By Hilton
Demi Sheridan, Editorial Assistant
The Canalside DoubleTree Hotel in Granary Wharf might be a chain, but the Hilton boys and girls know what they’re doing. This beautifully modern hotel besides the Leeds and Liverpool canal really does make you think of those blissful summer months, enjoying the cool breeze on those warm nights.
Near the Leeds station Southern Entrance, stands the tall structure that somehow blends gently into its surroundings without disturbing the scenic canal lock. Step inside and you will be welcomed with the famous DoubleTree ‘upon arrival’ cookie. I’ve always loved that little touch.
Some of the best features of the Granary Wharf DoubleTree are its dining options. On the ground floor there is The Lock Kitchen and Bar. Steeped in history, celebrating the past 200 years of working locks of the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Boats have moved up and down this very water so many times carrying all kinds of goods. It would have been cool to see in full swing back in the day.
But today, you can come here for some casual food and drink – served all day everyday – while watching the water meandering through with little to no urgency. In those summer months we all prefer, choose a table on the heated waterfront terrace for that alfresco dining experience.
For those of you who prefer something of a ‘higher’ calibre. The Sky Lounge is the highest rooftop cocktail bar in Leeds. With panoramic city views, leather chairs and faux fur throws. This venue covers everything from your boozy bottomless brunch to your decadent afternoon tea.
In theory there are 333 rooms in this hotel but that amount is never available so you might want to book in advance. Choose from the typical King/Queen guest rooms or go all out with a DoubleTree Suite. Whatever you choose, you will have a big comfortable bed, floor to ceiling windows, the option of room service and of course that all important complimentary WiFi.
What’s nearby? Just a few minutes away you will find the city centre if you are in town to shop. But, if like me, you are probably in town to enjoy the picturesque waterside setting, relax into the calming ambience of those cobbled bridges and take photos, good news! Granary Wharf is just that and just outside.
