While the seaside town now has a fleet of modern low-floor trams for visitors and locals, it’s the original Heritage trams that continue to fascinate tourists far and wide. Some are over 80 years old, and have been lovingly restored and maintained to offer quaint rides up and down the coastline.

Heritage Trams provide a mix of both Promenade and Coastal Tours, as well as some fun themed tours such as Afternoon Tea Tours, Evening Tours and more. There are even Fish & Chip Tours for those who want the most authentic Blackpool experience possible.

The Promenade and Coastal Tours usually depart from the special Heritage Tram Stop at North Pier & Tower, which is next to the Tourist Information Centre at Festival House.

Illuminations Tours are now some of the most popular tours available, and run from September to December. As tickets are in high demand, they generally go on sale in April, so you’ll need to move fast to book a spot.

If you fancy learning more about Blackpool’s trams and how they work, you can now visit The Depot down at Rigby Road (affectionately known as ‘Tramtown’), where you’ll receive a guided tour of the Heritage Fitting Shop. You’ll be able to take a look at the equipment engineers used to keep the wheels moving on the trams, and view some of the original fleet outside the main tram shed. This experience lasts around an hour.

Whether you’re a seasoned tram enthusiast or looking for a unique family day out, Heritage Tram Tours offer a great opportunity to experience a piece of moving history.
