Harrowside Fish & Chips

Should you find yourself on Blackpool’s south promenade, looking for a quiet spot to tuck into some of the town’s most highly regarded fish and chips, look no further than Harrowside.

Winner of the Good Food Award’s coveted Chippy of the Year award on multiple occasions, Harrowside isn’t one of the prime-location fish and chip shops in Blackpool, but that only makes its reputation as one of the best more impressive. You’ll find it tucked away in a residential area, five minutes’ walk from the south shore – away from the hustle and bustle of the prom, without being too far out of the action when you’re ready to dive back into the likes of the Pleasure Beach or Sandcastle Waterpark (both within a mile radius).

Split across two adjoining buildings, Harrowside is both a takeaway and a 40-seat restaurant, where you’ll find all the chip shop classics – golden, crispy cod, haddock and scampi, various iterations of the noble battered sausage, plus many different pies and burgers. You’ll also find a few extra-curricular items on the menu here, including haggis and black pudding – two of the shop’s most popular items, perhaps owing to their scarcity on menus elsewhere in Blackpool.

The shop’s golden, fluffy chips also a key part of what make locals consistently vote this place among the best in town. They’re perfectly seasoned and swimming in vinegar. And you can even take that flavour home with you, with the shop selling bottles of their own chip shop spice and proper chippy vinegar.

Harrowside isn’t a place you’d necessarily stumble upon, but for the discerning chippy lover, it’s a place that’s well worth hunting down.
