Gio’s Italian
Vicky AndrewsGio’s Italian isn’t the biggest restaurant in the area but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with a buzzing atmosphere. The go-to place for authentic Italian cuisine in Crewe, Gio’s has been serving up delicious homemade food since 1987. This cosy eatery has built up a big following for its unpretentious vibes and excellent value menu.
Dishes include more than sixteen different types of pizza along with a wide range of pasta dishes and daily specials. From a classic margherita to the nduja and dolcelatte with toasted almonds and rocket, there is a pizza for every palate. We’re big fans of the mighty ‘Cannonball’; beef meatballs in pomodoro sauce with melted mozzarella, red onions and fresh chillies. Boom. They also do calzone pizzas, Italian oven-baked and folded with different fillings. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried the bolognese stuffed calzone with rich beef ragu and melted cheese.
Pasta dishes include all of the family favourites like lasagne, cannelloni and penne marina, as well pollo Tuscany and basilico; spaghetti with basil and mint pesto, goats cheese, peas and courgette ribbons. Ingredients are all fresh and as the chefs make everything from scratch they can adapt dishes for most dietary requirements, including veggie and vegan.
If you want to mix it up a bit with your pasta and sauce, that’s fine too. Fancy bolognese with penne? No problem. King prawns with tagliatelle? You got it. The wine list is Italian inspired too and the house carafe is an absolute steal at £13. There’s also an array of beers, spritzers, cocktails, mocktails and after dinner tipples. With an intimate ambience, exquisite food and attentive service, Gio’s is an Italian casa worth its weight in garlic bread. Much loved by locals, even the Crewe Alexandra squad have enjoyed a slice of the action here. Take another little pizza my heart now, baby.
