Freida Mo’s

Creative Tourist
Ian Jones

It doesn’t get more charming than Freida Mo’s, the colourful and lovably ramshackle shop and café on Liverpool’s Lark Lane. Named after owner Sally Ayres’ grandmothers, Freida and Maureen, it’s an intimate space with outdoor seating and a couple of tables inside, plus selection of vintage clothing, jewellery and some handmade goodies at the back.

Cynical types might grumble at the bohemian aesthetic, but it’s a delight to find a place so unashamedly leftfield, especially when it’s backed with such friendly staff and an excellent soundtrack. But more than this it’s quietly welcoming to all comers, from old age pensioners who simply want a chat and a cup of tea, to nearby shop-owners and cheerful locals.

The menu is all about the sweet rather than savoury, with a particular focus on cookies – made onsite, in the shop’s cookie bakery. Lots of vegan options are available, and if you’re a vegan sceptic, these will make you question everything you thought you knew about vegan treats. It’s everything you could want from a daytime café, but with a flourish.

In the shop section, you’ll find gift ideas and lovely treats – cute homeware, lots of jewellery and sparkly clothes. Look out for the special jewellery cabinet too, where you can get your hands gems like vintage Vivienne Westwood pieces and other classic brands that will always make an outfit.

With such an upbeat, friendly atmosphere, Freida Mo’s is the kind of place that’ll make you wish you lived nearby so you could head over every day.
