Fell Brewery

Fell Bar is an outlet for the Fell Brewery and a great independent venue in itself. You’ll find the bar on Lowther Street, just off Highgate, and it tends to be first on the list of bars recommended to visitors by hotel staff.

Inside, guests will find a relaxed but still buzzing atmosphere, and Fell Bar regularly plays host to live music and comedy evenings. Aside from being a picturesque locale for walkers, hikers, and climbers, Kendal is also a creative place, as evinced by the Brewery Arts Centre nearby. So, music-wise, expect local acoustic and electric talent, plus visitors from around the country and comedy that will have you rolling in the booths. You can also grab delicious and hip pizza by the slice, plus boutique crisps, scratchings and other pub snacks.

The essential selling point of Fell Bar is the range of craft beers for the connoisseur, straight from the Fell Brewery in scenic Grange-over-Sands. You may be familiar with some of the top brews from this seaside enterprise. These include Ghyll, a Golden Ale available exclusively in cask, based on the British Session Ale. This is a smooth drink with Amarillo hops to give a bit of intrigue. Then there’s Crag, a strong Northern bitter that will put some ballast in your tank. Crag is popular with traditional Lakeland drinkers and hip youngsters alike.

For the adventurous, there’s a strong Helles Lager made in the Bavarian style from authentic German and Czech ingredients – there’s no filtering here. Of course, there’s always the original offering, Tinderbox, a smooth bitter IPA with a hint of pine, which has very much still got it.

Overall there are eight keg and six cask lines, so you can travel the world of beer in one venue, including rotating appearances from other local brewers.
