Arts Club Liverpool

Greg Thorpe

The Arts Club in Liverpool can be found in the East Village on Seel Street in what was originally part of the old Royal Institution of Arts and Sciences. Established in 1928, it’s now described as “part Victorian Theatre, part Manhattan Loft Club” – today the venue’s still got a lot of character, and is a fine place to catch a gig.

The Arts Club was recently redesigned and reopened in September 2023 (relaunched by none other than The Wombats). Their busy programme caters to all tastes, from more mainstream vibes like Taylor Swift-themed club nights and well-loved music acts to more experimental electronic and emerging artists.

It has two gig rooms (one theatre and one loft space), one considerably larger than the other, with both delivering great sound, hence the venue drawing some of the best small touring acts around. The Arts Club’s stage has previously been graced by the likes of Fatboy Slim, Blossoms and Paul Weller.

The location means you can grab a drink before or after a gig, in one of the many, many nearby bars – Seel Street is the heart of Liverpool’s nightlife: from student favourites like LA’GO and dance haven Heebie Jeebies to good old-fashioned pubs.
