Commune
Maja Lorkowska, Exhibitions EditorThese days, Liverpool is a nice place to be for young creatives looking for spaces to play gigs, show artwork, films and organise events. Commune is one of these – a creative bar in the Fabric District, Commune offers a space for creative activity out of a small conservatory & courtyard. Local artists and musicians can come together here over shared ideas and have fun.
Commune describes itself as a place for “live music, vinyl, films, art, & bevs”. Like all the best independent venues, the location comes with history – Commune is tucked down the side of an old printing warehouse and the former home of Melodic Distraction, an online radio, magazine and events organisers.
Surrounded by other young businesses, venues and music-lovers in the Fabric District, Commune’s events are relaxed, low key and cater to an arty audience that isn’t too serious. All are welcome – even the name itself is an invitation, symbolising community and togetherness and the basic ethos is – Commune want to benefit the area they’re in. The venue is fully accessible
While local creatives get pushed out of some of the quickly developing areas of the city to make space for student flats, the Fabric District venues welcome new faces and ideas. And what better place to meet over a beer, than a welcoming space with a busy events programme a cute conservatory?
