Birkenhead Central Library
Maja Lorkowska, Exhibitions EditorLocated in a stunning, white stone building with an entrance framed by large columns, the Birkenhead Central Library has been in its current home for 90 years and was opened in 1934 by king George V.
It’s a large library of books, as well as a a reference library, a community hub and resource centre for printer access, DVDs, free wi-fi and PC access.
You’ll find a spacious children’s area, with books, activities and bean bags. Take a look at the library’s social media pages for regular updates on events for the youngest readers such as bounce and rhyme sessions, storytime, Lego and after school clubs.
The library also hosts a range of activities for visitors of all ages, from regular reading groups to seasonal workshops. Occasionally it becomes a music venue too, providing a stage in its historic surroundings for small bands and local musicians.
There is free parking nearby on Raffled Road and if you’re getting the train, the Central Library is about 15 minutes from Birkenhead Central Station.
Please note that the library is closed for an hour in the middle of the day, between 1pm and 2pm.
