Record Shops in Leeds
Carmel Smickersgill, Tours & Activities EditorLeeds is a city with a fiercely passionate crowd of music lovers. It’s only fitting, therefore, that its record shops are well stocked, well educated and well up for sharing their musical taste with anyone and everyone who walks through the door.
The two long-standing veterans on the scene are Crash and Jumbo. These shops have been through generations of music lovers with fluctuating tastes and evolving fads. Both of them host in-store gigs so be sure to check out which artists are visiting in the near future. They often put on exceptional local acts and occasionally it can be a chance to catch big names in a more intimate setting.
On the cutting edge of electronic music, you can find Tribe Records and Released. The former is a well-recognised name and seen as an authority on club culture. The latter is a recent addition to Leeds, having been born out of the Released record label. The shop first opened as a pop up in the Corn Exchange and has been gaining a following since.
For those who want to spend half a day sifting through shelves and probably more money than intended, Wall Of Sound is a must-visit. This quirky collection is the life project of one devoted individual and a chaotic treasure trove of lesser-seen gems.
