Join Jonathan Schofield Tours for a stroll around the internationally important village of Worsley, taking in a superb canalscape and many historic buildings.

Tucked away in Salford, Worsley is a charming village known for its picturesque canals, stately homes, and lush green surroundings. Once a key industrial hub during the Industrial Revolution, it saw the opening of the Bridgewater Canal in 1761, built to transport coal from the Duke of Bridgewater’s mines in Worsley to Manchester. Revolutionising infrastructure, this was a key moment in the Industrial Revolution, and a visit to Worsley Delph – a Scheduled Monument – is a must for history enthusiasts.

But there’s plenty more to see here, including some stunning architecture. Your knowledgeable and experienced tour guide will help you to appreciate the rich details and significance of St Mark’s, a Victorian parish church dating back to 1856. Designed by George Gilbert Scott – one of the most prominent and influential English architects of the 19th century – St Mark’s is a fine example of the Gothic Revival architecture that Scott championed.

Your scenic stroll will also take in many other sites of interest in Worsley, with a story to be found around every corner. You’ll finish in the lovely surroundings of the 17th century Worsley Old Hall where you’ll enjoy some stunning Tudor architecture, a few more tales and – if the mood takes you – a parting drink.
