Get ready for a fun-filled Wednesday for pre-schoolers and their families with Wacky Wednesdays at the National Coal Mining Museum, a weekly event for littlest children and their adults and starting on 11 September.

Each week, participants will explore an exciting theme through interactive storytelling, hands-on activities, singing, and arts and crafts, so that young children can connect with the museum’s varied topics and history in an accessible, welcoming and relatable way.

Upcoming Wacky Wednesday themes include:

Wednesday 11 September – Taster Day
Get a sneaky peek at the fun ahead with the special taster day.

Wednesday 18 September – What Is Coal?
Discover the fascinating world of coal and its importance in our lives, even now!

Wednesday 25 September – Maurice the Miner
Meet Maurice the Miner and learn about his adventures underground.

Afterwards, of course the fun continues throughout the museum, and there is so much to learn and do!  Explore Parkinson’s Yard to find the hidden rabbit, tunnel through the Technology Gallery, or take a trip to the fascinating Victorian Gallery. Don’t miss the adorable canaries, the friendly ponies in the Pony Discovery Centre, and if you’re hungry or just simply need a break, enjoy a treat at Caphouse Café or relax with a picnic at the Adventure Playground.

Please note, Wacky Wednesdays at the National Coal Mining Museum are exclusively for children under 5 years old and their parents or carers. Pre-booking is essential, and adults do not need to book but each child must be accompanied by no more than two adults.
