Vernon Mill Remembers at Vernon Mill Artist Studios
Creative TouristCelebrating their 25th year as a collective, Vernon Mill Artists are hosting a weekend of art, music and theatre as part of an open weekend that gives a glimpse into this hub of creativity in Stockport.
Set in a Grade 2 listed 19th century cotton mill, Vernon Mill Artists Studios houses a vibrant collective of amateur and professional artists. Established in 2000, the 50+ strong collective works across a huge variety of styles, media and subject matter, from the traditional to the contemporary, while running classes and workshops. Twice a year, they fling open the doors to their creative home and invite the public to take a peek at the talent that’s nurtured here.
The next open weekend marks the collective’s 25th year, and sees its artists present an exhibition that responds to the theme of Vernon Mill Remembers – a celebration of the art and heritage of the collective and the lively and welcoming space in which they work. There’ll also be musical and theatrical elements to the weekend, with some special guests invited along to entertain the public.
On Friday 8 March, there’ll be a concert by well-known Stockport folk band The Weavers along with the choir of St Thomas Primary School. On Saturday 9 March the studios will host a drama production by Droysden Little Theatre. Stitches in Time by Paul Charlesworth weaves together uncanny stories of Vernon Mill and its ghosts. On Sunday 10 March, all studios will be open once more, giving the public a final opportunity (for a few months, at least) to meet the artists and explore their fantastic work.
The weekend is sponsored by Stockport Town of Culture, and entrance is free.
