UpClose: Aziz Ibrahim – From Lahore to Longsight at HOME
Chris HorkanLongsight-born guitarist Aziz Ibrahim is perhaps most famous locally for stepping in when John Squire left The Stone Roses in 1996 – but his 30-year career has seen him perform with Simply Red, Paul Weller and Ian Brown too.
Ibrahim’s own album, Lahore to Longsight, lends its name to this evening – featuring radical orchestra interpretations of original compositions as well as the record’s music. This record of ‘Asian blues’, as Ibrahim describes it, charts his father’s journey from Pakistan to Manchester, recording his own path to self-identity and cultural acceptance.
