Tony Wade: Keepers of Time kicks of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park‘s 2025 programme, with a display that celebrates the beauty of the natural world, with a specific focus on trees in great detail. Thick foliage and twisted branches abound in the YSP Centre space, captured by the artist’s keen eye in the form of digital drawings.
Wakefield-based Wade uses a variety of mediums, from painting and music to sculpture to notice the magical in the mundane. He’s often inspired by the local environment and commonly overlooked details.
For Tony Wade: Keepers of Time, he created a series of drawings for the Woodland Trust’s Ancient Tree Inventory. This record of the oldest and most significant trees in the UK is realised in the form of a map where people can add entries in their own area. Wade documenting ancient and veteran trees around YSP in different seasons during 2024, some of which are as old as 300-400 years.
