The Moomins and the Comet (Live Rescore) at bluedot 2017
Gemma Gibb, Associate EditorOver 70 years since it was first published and over 30 years since it was broadcast, it’s striking how appealing and relevant Tove Jansson’s much loved second Moomin book Comet in Moominland, represented as The Moomins and the Comet in the stopmotion cult 1983 TV series is to both big and little kids today.
An exclusive and rare screening accompanied by a live rescore (of the original music written by Leeds post punk avant-garde theatre composers Graeme Miller and Steve Shill inspired by Brian Eno) at the Orbit stage is set to be a once in a lifetime and powerful experience for those both familiar and new to the world of Moominland as we follow gentle Moomintroll and friends’ amazing adventures to the Observatory on the Lonely Mountains to discover if a comet will collide with the Earth.
This tale is about all the big stuff – friendship amidst difference and against adversity, finding a place in a world (our bluedot) that’s changing around us, the effect of our environment and the larger and intergalactic forces surrounding us all. Unmissable.
