Swallows and Amazons at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre
Gemma Gibb, Associate EditorChester’s Storyhouse may be just one year old but with Swallows and Amazons following critically acclaimed productions of Alice in Wonderland and the world stage premiere of The Secret Seven in 2017, it is fast becoming one of the look-to venues for families in the North.
This summer we can look forward to a brand new revival of Arthur Ransome’s classic tale of outdoor adventures, friendship, rivalry …. and, of course, a little bit of piracy. The premiere of a major new adaptation by the Tony Award-nominated Bryony Lavery (Treasure Island for National Theatre, Frozen for National Theatre and Broadway) and with acclaimed Director Katie Posner at the creative healm, we are guaranteed to set sail to Wild Cat Island in the highest quality of boats.
Performed by Storyhouse’s talented rep company (the largest in the North of England) , we love that we can expect to be swept up in this summer idyll both in Storyhouse‘s magnificently developed art deco building itself (make time to adventure around the library while you are there) from May onwards and then in the stunning outdoor setting of the Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre.
We are in high hopes of Storyhouse continuing to bring to life these adaptations of children’s classics in a relevant way for modern family audiences … and of the stage versions whether seen indoor or outdoor, inspiring some outdoor imaginative wild time this summer for families across the North.
