Steph Huang: There is nothing old under the sun at esea contemporary
Maja Lorkowska, Exhibitions EditorAutumn brings a brand new show to esea contemporary, from Mark Tanner Sculpture Award winner Steph Huang.
There is nothing old under the sun is a multilayered exploration of the ethics and history of food production, consumer culture, , as well as local culture and architecture, through storytelling with objects. The work is inspired by Huang’s upbringing in Taiwan as well as her travels and professional experience as a chef.
In fact, the artist’s experience as a cook intertwines with art creation, both in the process as well as providing her with a visual awareness of aesthetics and packaging of food. The resulting exhibition is a showcase of Huang’s skills in glassblowing, casting, woodwork and more.
As part of the MTSA’s National Touring Programme, There is nothing old under the sun was first exhibited at Standpoint in London. Following the show at esea contemporary, the exhibition will tour to Cross Lane Projects in Kendal in March 2025.
