RNCM Chamber Choir with Clod Ensemble at Victoria Baths, Manchester 27 March 2025 Tickets from £12.00 — Book now

The RNCM is making a habit of programming brilliant off-site events in Manchester’s most unique spaces. Last year we had Nature’s Music at Manchester Museum. This year, we get something perhaps even more impressive, as part of the College’s Dance:Music initiative.

Spring’s concert makes use of the gorgeous interiors of Victoria Baths – a Grade-II listed former (and occasionally current!) swimming baths, widely regarded as one of the finest of its kind. In it, the RNCM Chamber Choir and interdisciplinary company Clod Ensemble will deliver an immersive performance, exploring how music and movement can reshape our connection to an historic site.

The combination of movement and music is at the heart of all of Clod Ensemble’s work, whether creating live performances for traditional concert halls and theatres or arts galleries and public spaces. Working with inspiring musicians is core to the character and success of their company, and here, those musicians come in the form of the 28 singers of the RNCM Chamber Choir.

Guided by Clod Ensemble’s innovative choreography, the Choir will move through the intricate Victorian architecture of the Baths, their voices reverberating off the vaulted ceilings, iconic green tiles and beautiful stained glass windows.

Audience and musicians alike will embark on a journey through 10 short, interconnected pieces of music exploring the themes of loss, longing and memory, including 5 new commissions from RNCM students and existing pieces from Clod Ensemble’s repertoire from the acclaimed scores for Silver Swan and Zero.

Expect choral music like you’ve never heard it – or seen it – before.
