RNCM Big Band with Bart van Lier at the RNCM Theatre
Chris HorkanThe RNCM’s Big Band collaborates with Bart van Lier, principal trombonist with the Netherland’s Metropole Orkest, culminating in this major concert.
The Hilversum-based jazz and pop orchestra was established in 1945 to raise the morale of the Dutch people following World War II. It has gone on to win a Grammy Award – for its 2015 collaboration with Snarky Puppy on Slyva, which scooped Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016 – and has worked with the likes Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Brian Eno over the decades.
Renowned jazz improviser Van Lier will collaborate with the RNCM’s Big Band for a programme here that features some of his own pieces, as well as solos and ensemble compositions by Bill Holman, Jerome Kern and Howard Dietz and Arthur Schwartz.
