Pig Heart Boy at The Lowry
Shekina Rose, Families EditorHow far would you go to survive? That’s the question at the ‘heart’ (get it?) of Pig Heart Boy, an unmissable stage adaptation of Malorie Blackman’s award-winning novel, coming to The Lowry on Wed 26 – Sat 29 Mar 2025.
Cameron is thirteen and all he wants is to be a normal kid – hang out with friends, go to school, and swim. But Cameron is not living a normal life. With his heart failing and time running out, he’s faced with an impossible decision: accept a transplant from a pig, or risk losing everything.
Adapted by Winsome Pinnock and directed by Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu, this electrifying co-production by Children’s Theatre Partnership, Unicorn Theatre, and Sheffield Theatres brings Blackman’s incredible novel to life on stage. Originally shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and adapted into a BAFTA-winning BBC series, Pig Heart Boy is a fascinating exploration of ethics and identity, as well as the lengths we will go to survive.
The story explores loyalty, friendship, and the blurred lines between right and wrong. Is it better to have a pig’s heart that works … than a human heart that doesn’t?
Described as “A tale of courage stretched to the limit” by the Times Educational Supplement and “a powerful story about friendship, loyalty, and family.” in The Guardian, Pig Heart Boy at The Lowry is not one to miss. It’s a powerful production that will pull on your heartstrings, have you gripped from start to finish, and really make you think, long after the show ends.
