Featuring Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce as drag queens and Terence Stamp as a transgender woman, Stephan Elliott’s The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert has built a sizable cult in the 24 years since its release. Praised in the New York Times for presenting “a defiant culture clash in generous, warmly entertaining ways”, Elliot’s film sees the trio embark upon a roadtrip across the Australian outback in a tour bus they nickname Priscilla.

It’s the kind of boisterous, beloved film that’s built for the communal, themed event screenings that Picnic Cinema specialise in. The event forms half of the outdoor cinema specialist’s Muncaster Castle Weekender (the other half being The Big Lebowski) which boasts two nights of revelry, complete with the usual fun and games, on site BBQ and café, dancing and the chance to camp in the grounds of an iconic castle.
