Os Mutantes at Band on the Wall
Chris HorkanBrazilian psychedelic rock band Os Mutantes make their Manchester debut this May, over 50 years after they first formed.
The legendary group, who have counted Beck, David Byrne and Kurt Cobain among their fans, were established in 1966 during Brazil’s Tropicália movement. Following over a decade of activity and numerous personnel changes, Os Mutantes dissolved in 1978 – but reformed in 2000 and played their first show in almost 30 years at London’s Barbican in 2006, to coincide with its Tropicália exhibition.
In recent years, they have collaborated with JD Twitch, Devendra Banhart and Of Montreal, and – with their current six-piece line-up – released Fool Metal Jack, their first album with mostly English lyrics, in 2013. Catch them now, for the first time in Manchester.
