Mr Kite’s MUSICIRCUS! at Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool 4 June 2017 Entrance is free

Roll up to Aintree Racecourse for what promises to be a 220-minute fairground ride of sights and sounds.

MUSICIRCUS! was penned in 1967 by John Cage ‘for any number of performers willing to perform in the same place at the same time’ while, across the Atlantic, the Beatles were recording their own masterpiece, Sgt Pepper. Now, 50 years on, the two works are being entwined here for one of the biggest and most ambitious events of the Liverpool presents Sgt Pepper at 50 programme.

Using the Beatles’ back catalogue as inspiration, organisers are asking thousands of local people, performers, amateur and professional musicians to help create this strikingly original performance. The result promises to be an afternoon like no other.
