Michelle Paver - Wakenhyrst at Blackwell’s Manchester, Manchester 2 April 2019 Tickets from £3 — Book now

Blackwell’s events programme continues apace and the shiny new bookshop has just announced a ‘delightfully gothic evening’ on Tuesday 2 April. The bestselling author of Dark Matter and Thin Air Michelle Paver is in town talking about and signing copies of her latest adult novel, Wakenhyrst.

Spanning five centuries, the book delves into the murky world of murderous obsession and begins in Edwardian Suffolk, where a young girl Maud is growing up in a manor house alone in a lost corner of the Fens, without a mother and ruled by her repressive father, who awakens unhallowed forces when he finds a painted medieval devil in a graveyard… A darkly gothic thriller, Wakenhyrst is described as an ‘outstanding new piece of story-telling, a tale of mystery and imagination laced with terror […] a masterwork in the modern gothic tradition that ranges from Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker to Neil Gaiman and Sarah Perry’. Don’t have nightmares!
