Lived Fiction at The Lowry
Kristy Stott, Theatre EditorCombining evocative audio description, stunning projection art and captioning, and unapologetic movement, Lived Fiction is the latest work by the acclaimed Stopgap Dance Company. It blazes into The Lowry for one performance this October.
Billed as a “manifestation of Stopgap’s 20-year history”, Lived Fiction is a beautiful performance that invites the audience into the world of Stopgap, a company of Deaf, Disabled, neurodivergent and non-disabled creatives. Poetic and subtly political, the company offers a window to multiple perspectives while celebrating contemporary dance’s rich, inclusive and diverse future.
Deep with compassion for the human condition, Lived Fiction is a show where everybody’s needs have been considered: audience members can come and go from the performance; there are quiet spaces, fidget toys and ear defenders; there are captions, a live audio describer and guides in large print and braille.
Expect masterful performances from Deaf, Disabled, neurodivergent and non-disabled dancers – this is a dance work bound with compassion for the human condition. Driven by a diverse creative team, Stopgap’s vision in to create an inclusive world where diversity is not just accepted, but pursued, and where no-one is limited by prejudice.
Paving the way for a fairer future for everyone, Lived Fiction is the most brilliant and accessible dance show; a performance that can completely shift our perception of the world. Go see.
