Lights, Capture "REEL" Women - International Women's Day 2025 at Seven Arts, Leeds 7 March 2025 Tickets from £15.00 — Book now

International Women’s Day has long been a time for reflection, celebration, and a renewed call to action, recognising both the strides made towards gender equality and the work that remains. In 2025, the conversation turns to the visibility of women in media and entertainment, with Lights, Capture, “Reel” Women, an in-person event presented by Nubian Noire. Bringing together industry professionals, creatives, and audiences, the evening will shine a spotlight on female-driven storytelling and the power of authentic representation.

At the heart of the event is a series of thought-provoking discussions featuring women working across journalism, music, and media. The panel will explore the realities of navigating the creative industries, the challenges of carving out space in male-dominated fields, and the importance of telling stories that move beyond traditional portrayals of women on screen. Alongside these conversations, the event offers a showcase of short films that celebrate female voices in cinema. From compelling narratives to animated gems, each screening will highlight the diversity and depth of women’s perspectives in film.

Adding to the evening’s energy, a stand-up comedy performance will bring humour and warmth to the occasion, offering a playful yet insightful take on female experiences. Beyond the stage and screen, guests will also have the chance to engage with independent female-led businesses, with a selection of stalls showcasing work from creative entrepreneurs. A light Caribbean-inspired buffet will be available, offering a taste of independent culinary talent.

With doors opening at 5:30 pm and the programme beginning promptly at 6 pm, the event promises an evening of connection, conversation, and celebration. Attendees are encouraged to dress to impress, embracing the sense of occasion and the spirit of International Women’s Day. For those who feel they have something to contribute, there is also the opportunity to take part as an additional guest speaker, with organisers welcoming expressions of interest via email at artsheritagecircle@gmail.com.

By bringing together inspiring voices and championing the presence of women in media, Lights, Capture, “Reel” Women offers a space to reflect, engage, and celebrate the achievements of female creatives. As the world marks International Women’s Day, this event stands as a reminder of the power of representation, storytelling, and collective action.
