Leonardo Drew at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Maja Lorkowska, Exhibitions EditorYorkshire Sculpture Park presents Brooklyn based artist Leonardo Drew who has be taking over the Chapel, with his characteristically explosive, monochrome work.
Drew predominantly works in abstraction within sculpture and installation, teetering between order and chaos, the calm just after the storm. His heavy, plywood creation is a contemplation of collective experience, memory, decay, the cycle life and rebirth. Physically, the installation is an imposing tower of blackened and painted wood, shattered, broken and splintered around the space, as though we’re witnessing the moment immediately after an explosion.
The all-encompassing sculptural installation follows the work of other artists who have previously exhibited in the Chapel such as Bill Viola, Sharin Neshat and Ai Weiwei.
