Jazz Workshops at Band on the Wall
Carmel Smickersgill, Tours & Activities EditorBand on the Wall is a cornerstone in Manchester’s live music scene that has long been hosting some of the best international and UK Jazz artists. What makes this venue extra special, is their ideology and efforts to make sure that music doesn’t remain a privilege reserved for only those on stage; Band on the Wall’s workshops, choirs and masterclasses encourage all levels of musicians to get involved in music practically, socially and creatively. This spring they will once again be hosting Manchester’s longest running jazz workshops for intermediate to advanced players.
Encouraging the steadfast big band heads to have a go at small ensemble bop.
The course is directed by renowned Saxophonist Munch Manship. Munch has been helping people gain ensemble experience in Jazz for many years running the Bury Met Jazz Orchestra as well as the Band on the Wall workshops. His knowledge about different genres in Jazz allows players to find what they enjoy naturally, encouraging the steadfast big band heads to have a go at small ensemble bop and free modal jazzers to feel unrestricted by lead sheets.
Sessions take place every Thursday evening from 6:15 to 8:45 pm starting from the 20th April. Over the course of the weekly sessions you’ll work as an ensemble towards a collective performance at Band on the Wall. Letting you share with a public audience the progress you’ve made on your instrument, musicality and ensemble skills in the jazz workshops.
