Introduction to UV Screen Printing at Bluecoat
Carmel Smickersgill, Tours & Activities EditorJoin the Bluecoat this February for a day long course of UV screen printing. Within one Saturday, you’ll learn how to get to grips with the basic techniques involved with UV printing. From the materials you’ll use through to the process of creating a UV exposed screen you’ll be guided step by step to create something to take home with you on the day.
UV screen printing can be used on almost any prepared surface which can fit in the screen beds. You will spend the day preparing and exposing your own screen as well as having time to draw your own image, or bring an image along to use in your print. It’s worth getting in touch beforehand if you plan to bring your own image, just to check suitability. You’ll then print your design using two colours onto paper in a small edition which you can take home at the end of the day.
UV printing is a more environmentally friendly printing method compared to others, as the ink can cure instantly under much lower temperatures. This is in keeping with the Bluecoat’s wider environmental ethos, where they try to use sustainable practices in as many parts of their work as possible.
This is an introductory workshop so is better suited for those wanting to give screen printing a try for the first time rather than experienced printers. However, attendance is still open to anyone who wants to take part. All participants must be over 18 and for those who are ready to embrace their own printing practice after the session, by becoming a Bluecoat artist member you can book into the printing studio anytime.
