Equilibrio Dinamico | Through Her Eyes at the Riley Theatre
Kristy Stott, Theatre Editor
Step into a world of movement, emotion and bold female perspectives when Through Her Eyes arrives at Leeds’ Riley Theatre. Presented by acclaimed Italian company Equilibrio Dinamico, this triple bill of contemporary dance is a celebration of the female gaze – a vivid exploration of how women see, feel and create.
What sets this show apart is its all-female choreographic line-up, with three rising stars of international dance bringing their distinct voices to the stage. Dutch choreographer Emma Evelein fuses raw physicality with cinematic storytelling, often balancing vulnerability and intensity. Italian director and Equilibrio Dinamico founder Roberta Ferrara brings a poetic, emotionally rich style that digs deep into the inner lives of women. And from Israel, Roni Chadash – known for her surreal, shape-shifting movement language – offers a playful yet piercing take on identity and the female form.
Together, they craft a nuanced triptych of perspectives, each refracting the world through a distinctly female lens. The result is a layered, expressive evening that embraces complexity – from fragility to power, introspection to boldness.
Delivering this performance is a remarkable international ensemble – a collaboration between Equilibrio Dinamico and VERVE, the postgraduate company of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. With dancers from Italy, Norway, China, Poland, the US and beyond, this cross-cultural exchange pulses with energy and immediacy, bringing global viewpoints to this deeply personal theme.
Part performance, part dialogue between generations of women artists, Through Her Eyes offers a rare opportunity to witness the evolving language of female-led choreography. Whether you’re a dance devotee or a curious newcomer, this is a performance where women take centre stage – and redefine it on their own terms.
