Driftwood at Lowry
Kristy Stott, Theatre Editor
Two of the UK’s most celebrated theatre companies join forces to present Driftwood, an inspiring new drama written by former Bruntwood Prize-winner, Tim Foley.
Mystical and thrilling, Driftwood is billed as “a distinctive physical and cinematic production” about hope, love, belonging and the tides within us.
Set to the backdrop of the raging North Sea, in the seaside town of Seaton Carew, two brothers go for walks along the beach. The tide is out but the chips are hot. Their dad is dying and their town is crumbling, and Mark and Tiny need to decide what they’re going to do. Family rifts and political divides try to pull them apart, while a figure made of driftwood stalks the shore at night.
An unmissable production, Driftwood sees two of the UK’s most prominent theatre companies come together – champions of rural touring performance, Pentabus and Manchester-based theatre mavericks, ThickSkin (Peak Stuff, How Not to Drown).
Recommended for ages 14+, Driftwood is an absorbing drama that perfectly expresses the facets of the human experience. Moving and witty, physical and visually striking, this play offers a meditative and fully absorbing 80 minutes of theatre. Catch it at Lowry for two performances this March.
