Drawing course with Nina Hunter
Carmel Smickersgill, Tours & Activities EditorThe Tetley have been helping everyone and anyone get creative with their series of workshops and classes. For those who want to commit a bit more time to developing their work rather than just attending one off workshops and occasional sessions, Nina Hunter’s six week drawing course is for you.
Put your newly acquired skills into use
Each week you’ll learn the essential skills of drawing one at a time. These century old techniques have served artists well since the times of Leonardo da Vinci. Starting with the most basic geometric 3D shapes, you’ll work on the key elements of scale, composition, proportions, perspective, shading and contrast culminating in a final session where you’ll be able to put your newly acquired skills into use with a full scale life drawing class.
A combination of skill and exploration
Although it’s important to hone the techniques of an artistic practice, Nina is also very keen for people to find their own idiomatic style of drawing. Any creative pursuit is a combination of skill and exploration, learning the boundaries to then be able push them and see what happens. There will be plenty of moments in the drawing course when expressive and charismatic drawing will be encouraged, helping each person to figure out their individual drawing style.
Nina Hunter is a fine art painter and illustrator based in Yorkshire. She’s also the founder of Saltaire Art School as well as being a visiting lecturer at Leeds University. Her passion for pedagogy and sharing the skills and techniques of fine art make her an excellent and patient teacher for artists of all levels.
If you can’t commit to the six weeks there are plenty of one off workshops and shorter classes at the Tetley. Check out what’s coming up in the future on their website.
