Creative Writing Challenge
Shekina Rose, Families Editor
Does your child have a passion for storytelling, poetry, or drama? Or do they simply love anything that involves being creative and using their imagination?
Young writers of Greater Manchester are invited to submit their work to The Lowry’s Creative Writing Challenge, open until 16 May 2025. The finalists of this exciting challenge will – wait for it – perform on the iconic Quays Theatre Stage at The Lowry. This is an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and also a fun creative project for young people to sink their teeth into and let their imaginations run wild.
Whatever kind of writing your child enjoys, there are many writing forms they can enter, including:
- Poetry – from spoken word to limericks and rap, haikus or sonnets, to name a few!
- Scriptwriting – this could be a solo performance, a play for the stage, the next big thing on Netflix or a radio drama…
- Short stories – maybe your child is a dab hand at the short story form and bringing characters and adventures to life on paper.
Entries in a variety of formats like video/audio will be accepted, to ensure accessibility for everyone.
This is a fantastic way to celebrate the creativity of young writers and showcase the incredible talent in Manchester.
How to get involved
Each child can submit one entry per category. If you have any questions about accessibility or need support, please reach out to getcreative@thelowry.com.
The Creative Writing Challenge at The Lowry has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Beryl Jones and her husband Trevor, Gold Patrons of The Lowry.
Let’s celebrate and inspire the next generation of storytellers. Encourage your child to take part today – submissions are now open.
