Crash
Tom Grieve, Cinema EditorBased upon J.G. Ballard’s 1973 novel, this strange, singular work is one of the more difficult Cronenberg films to track down. With the director’s trademake grotesqueness and a plot that follows a group of characters who deliberately stage car crashes for their own erotic pleasure, Crash is not a film for the faint of heart. It is however, a fascinating depiction of the collision of man and machine, of the link between sex and death, delivered with thrilling immediacy and uncomfortable eroticism.
