create beautiful things with oil based marbling paint

Chanukah celebrates a miracle in which a jug of oil, which was supposed to be enough to light the lamp of the temple in Jerusalem for one day, lasted for eight days. It’s for this reason that the Jewish Museum has decided to take inspiration from the miracle, by bringing people together to create beautiful things with oil based marbling paint.

Marbling is an age old painting technique where drops of paint are placed in a bath of liquid. The different densities of the liquid mean that they stay separated allowing you to manipulate the shapes, combinations of colours and overall finish. The name comes from the similarity the resulting effect shares with Marble rock. In the Chanukah Marbling Workshop you’ll be able to get hands on with this satisfying method of painting yourself.
